Dr. Ken Nnamdi Ukeagu

Dr. Ken Nnamdi Ukeagu is a distinguished administrator, patriot, and a paragon of professional excellence. Born in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Dr. Ukeagu began his journey of purpose with early education at Zik’s Avenue Primary School, Enugu, and Ibeku
High School, Umuahia. He proceeded to the University of Calabar, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree laying the foundation for a
career that would later shape the electoral administration of Nigeria.

Driven by an insatiable quest for knowledge, he pursued higher studies
at the University of Jos, earning a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management. His scholarly pursuits reached their pinnacle at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where he obtained an M.Phil in Public Administration and later in Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Administration.

A man of both intellect and vision, Dr. Ukeagu has complemented his academic attainments with specialized international training — notably at the World Affairs Council in the United States, the BRIDGE Elections Professional Development Programme, and the Applied Logistics Management Training in Malaysia, among others. These experiences honed his capacity to design and execute complex electoral and logistical systems with precision and transparency.

With over three decades of unbroken service in the Nigerian electoral system, Dr. Ukeagu stands as one of the longest-serving and most respected figures in election logistics and public procurement. Joining the then National Electoral Commission (NEC) after his National Youth Service Corp programme, he rose through the ranks to become Director of Procurement in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and, in 2022, achieved a historic milestone as the first serving or retired staff of the Commission ever appointed as National Commissioner since Nigeria’s independence.

As the National Commissioner supervising the Commission’s offices in
Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo States and Tenders Board, Dr. Ukeagu has
played a pivotal role in reforming and modernizing the Commission’s
operations. His leadership has ensured transparency, accountability, and
efficiency in electoral procurement and logistics management.

Among his many landmark achievements are:

  • The design and implementation of comprehensive logistics frameworks for successive general elections in Nigeria.
  • The introduction of customized ballot papers and result sheets, reducing cost and enhancing accuracy.
  • The supervision of procurement and deployment of technological tools such as Smart Card Readers and Direct Data Capture Machines, BVAS; and
  • The institutional strengthening of INEC through reforms that emphasize professionalism, capacity development, and technological innovation.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT), a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration (FICA), a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, United Kingdom (MCIPS), Dr. Ukeagu’s professional affiliations reflect a man wholly committed to excellence and ethical leadership.
Those who know him describe him as firm but fair, humble yet visionary, disciplined yet compassionate — a leader whose quiet strength commands respect and whose devotion to public service remains an inspiration to colleagues and protégés alike.

His work continues to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process and to uphold the credibility of the Commission as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy. 

Dr. Ukeagu is the founder of Connak foundation, a non-profit organization founded thirteen years ago. The foundation has with the support of partners worldwide sponsored and supported different programmes and project in the country aimed at human and community development. The foundation has up till date;

  1. Trained through its COFEI programme over 22,000 young entrepreneur and supported them with start-up capital to own and manage their businesses.
  2. Placed 722 students on full scholarship at Secondary and Tertiary institutions nationwide
  3. Organized free medical outreach programs during which over
    15,000 patients were attended to and several major surgeries carried out on different issues.
  4. Installed more than 3,500 solar lights in different communities Constructed new and repaired old roads in many communities spanning over 62.5 km in total.
  5. Provided boreholes with generators in 15 communities in the country; and
    So many other activities including vocational training, interest free loans to artisans and women in business.
